If you’ve spent any time poking around this site, you’ve already come across a few things about me. I thought, though, since we’re really just getting things going on here, a bit more backstory may be in order for those who aren’t aware of how I got to this point. On top of that I’ve got a few timely updates to get out, so I’ve included those at the end as well.
(This is my second attempt writing this. My first one was way too long. Hopefully this time goes better…)
The books I’m now working on releasing as a series were actually published once before. The art was different, the words were similar, and the themes were the same. I loved them. I still do. However, I learned A TON about the world of children’s picture books – of writing and publishing – since they first came out, and I’ve been bursting with ideas to make them over for quite some time.
I can’t really express just how thankful I am for all of the author visits I’ve been able to do because of those early versions. I went to schools and libraries. I got into a national subscription box for books for children of color. I ran a successful Kickstarter campaign. I even ended up on local television. I had a blast, and I’m hopeful and excited to being able to do even more as I apply all I’ve learned to my updated, reworked, rebranded series.
It’s been a few years now since I released the originals. A lot has changed in the world. And a lot hasn’t. There’s still a need for more diverse and inclusive books. In fact, it looks like there’s an even greater need now. It’s a good thing I’m still hard at work on them. I’m not sure I would handle the stresses of society half as well without this outlet. It helps me process, and it helps me connect. I’m extremely lucky to have the opportunity to put as much energy and focus into my projects as I do.
This week, I will be sending my subscribers a free gift: The Let’s Share a Hair Story ebook. I’m super excited to finally get this project back out into the world! Page after page brings a smile to my face. I hope you all enjoy it as much as I do. The paperback version will be out as soon as some last behind-the-scenes details come together. The tentative release date is Wednesday, July 1st. I hope to come up with something fun for the big day. Perhaps a sale price? Mark your calendars, and stay tuned for details!

I’ve already begun working on updates for two more out of my three remaining previously indie published books. They are so moving and so sweet and so cute. I’m constantly inspired to keep putting in the effort to get them ready to share, too. I hope to have more updates on those throughout this summer.
Thank you all for being such great supporters and motivators. I couldn’t do any of this without you. If you’re already subscribed, keep an eye out in your email and on social media to make sure you get the gift once it’s been sent. If you haven’t yet subscribed and want to received the ebook, you have until the end of the day Tuesday, June 15th to do it to be included in this file drop. Don’t miss out!
